ONE YEAR

The week of Thanksgiving, 2022, I loaded my kids in the car, drove 10 minutes to a renovated elementary school - the owner had space for rent & my friend swore it was the one. I had been looking & looking & LOOKING for the perfect studio space, for years now. If i’m honest, I was doubtful this was “the one” but I felt a pull to AT LEAST check it out…

It was the week of Thanksgiving - aka I knew even if I loved this space… it was a long shot with the hubs.

I had spent the past days / months / years praying for a space that felt right. I knew I would feel it when it was the one for us. I prayed for a space that my kids could run around in, a space that felt safe to welcome other kids & friends in, a space that could blend my work AND home life.

Something that felt impossible to find.

It had to have all the things - loads of natural light, vaulted ceilings, space for working, playing AND shopping. I was hopeful we’d find it “one day”…

I met the owner of the building that week (who is the coolest btw) & he gave me the tour. He told me all about the history of the building, the plans he had & how flexible he was to fit me into that picture.

My mind started quite literally running with ideas!

I left that day feeling motivated, I could feel it was right.

Again, I knew this would be a shock to hear for my husband.

I called him minutes after leaving, ready to spill all the deets!!!

Well, I’ll spare you ALL the details.

Long story short - we knew it was the space for us. After feeling this HUUUUUGE dose of reassurance to move forward with the space, we both agreed it’s time to GO AFTER THIS. Our first (yes, first…) Soul Society Studio. Wow.

The past year has been exactly what I hoped. This space has become our second home, a space filled with creativity, connection & straight up - beauty. A space where the power of photography can FLY with arms wide open.

We get to sip coffee here. (a favorite of mine)

We get to inspire, motivate & teach here.

We get to be…us, here.

The walls of the studio are special to me. A space I know was meant for us.

If you’ve walked through our door, you know what I’m talking about.

So where do we go from here?

FORWARD. WE STEP FORWARD.

I don’t know what this space will look like a year from now but man, am I excited to see it.

Today I will soak in the 365 days we’ve had here. How amazing it’s been. I will sip a coffee from my favorite studio mug. I will probably cry over how much I love it here.

Today, I will load the kids in the car & drive the 10 minutes, to be where I know was meant for us.
